Is injection molding of plastic products toxic and safe?

Is injection molding of plastic products toxic and safe?

Plastic injection molding itself is not a toxic or dangerous process, but during the production process, some chemicals and operating conditions may be involved that, if not properly controlled and managed, may have adverse effects on worker health and the environment.

It mainly includes the following three aspects:

(1) The raw materials used in plastic injection molding are usually plastic resin particles, which may contain harmful substances, such as phthalates (such as dibutyl phthalate or dioctyl phthalate), which are considered harmful to human health. In addition, some plastic raw materials may decompose during processing to produce harmful substances, such as vinyl chloride, styrene, etc.

(2) The additives and auxiliaries used in the injection molding process of plastic products, such as plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, etc., may also have an impact on human health. These substances usually have little effect on the human body at low concentrations, but can be harmful to human health if inhaled, ingested or exposed to skin in large quantities.

(3) The injection molding process of plastic products will produce some noise and vibration, if workers are exposed to these factors for a long time, it may lead to hearing loss and physical fatigue.

In order to ensure the safety of the injection molding process of plastic products, a series of measures need to be taken, mainly including the following three aspects:

(1) Enterprises should strengthen occupational health management and provide necessary occupational health training and protective equipment, such as gloves, masks, earplugs, etc.

(2) The incoming inspection and acceptance of raw materials should be strengthened to ensure that the raw materials used meet the relevant national and local standards.

(3) Enterprises should reasonably arrange the production process and equipment layout, reduce noise and vibration in the production process, and avoid excessive exposure of workers.

In short, the plastic injection molding process itself is not a toxic and dangerous process, but it is necessary to pay attention to personal health protection, raw material inspection, equipment layout and noise control in the operation process to protect the health of workers and the safety of the environment.
